HISTORY: Tumakuru (Tumkur) region, Karnataka. Hill forts and architecture

Start your day among verdant, rocky hill ranges that you may not be so familiar with, drive past lakes, fields, outcrops, bridges, villages or just chance upon weekly bazaars. Climb up the tall hill fort and the trek opens up layers of fortification, structures and scenic views. Relive a chunk of history! A quiet village in this hill country is our base for the weekend. Explore more and settle for the day in the village. A morning village-walk the next day and things begin to unfold. Rural life, heritage structures, a little climb and some curious sites along the way. A weekend of rich, meaningful relaxation.

Day 1

Start your day with hill ranges you may know from earlier trips, that exist nearby Bengaluru. Pass lakes, fields, rocky outcrops, bridges, villages and weekly bazaars (if you are on such a day). A quiet village, in the middle of this hill country with a backdrop of history and geology is our base for the weekend. Before we reach there, we climb up the tall hill fort, and explore some of the structures below. The lower exploration gives a sense of time – where it stands still. The trek opens up the layers of fortification, and spectacular views of the hilly outcrops. Intriguing structures and their use, architecture of stone battlements overlooking the town below, we relive a snippet of history. Return to base and head to our settlement to a nearby hill fort.  Explore at will and settle.  Stay in the village local/tent in the fields (based on feasibility/season).

Day 2

A morning walk through the village, observe, ponder, relax and enjoy…  Things begin to unfold. Rural life and temples, a little climb and the horizons lift up. Look quietly around, hear the breeze, the chirping and the buzz or the grasses… down below you may spot more things, if not the woodpecker or the dragonflies! Explore at will and relax. Let’s return down into the village to explore those sites of curiosity after our lunch. Each has a story! Relax, packup and back to Bengaluru.
