What is India Nearby?the mission

India Nearby is an effort to bring out the missing, the lost and the unseen hidden India. Covering regions and themes of interest, we set out to bring to anyone, who is seeking to know, learn and take thrill or pride in India, the substance to make it real. As trips and as products we bring to your sensibility the taste of India – as snippets to trigger curiosity and learning, as experiences to cherish, take pride and get intimate with India. It can be a place or a thing. It can be of past or the present. It can be in stone or a thing that moves. It can be that tree or that fort, that house in your village or that butterfly that just flew past.

Is there something that makes them “Indian”? Discover and find out for yourself. Not all questions need be answered. But questions must be asked. We must explore, seek and move on with the quest.

Currently we are offering trips and products as snippets-of-India. Each month, new trips and products will get added as the quest continues. India Nearby will thrill you with things Indian. It is your self-discovery. Start with something nearby!

How did India Nearby happen?the vision, the story

India Nearby is an outcome of decades of dedicated and regular research, design and exploration. There is much of so called “unknown” India, which is common knowledge in some circles – the circles of scholars, geologists, naturalists, environmentalists, historians and archaeologists. If only a bit of that was made available, in a form that is thrilling and curious, than requiring to go through the rigours of disciplined research, could the common man benefit and take pride. That pride, access and availability of knowledge is the only way to preserve these things of value, in the fast paced world of today.

Understanding this divide between main stream research and common man, we set out to bridge this gap. Ours is a work of research and interpretation – of education. The research, the knowledge has to be presented in attractive and self-exploratory form. Generating curiosity, intimate close experiences of history, nature, culture, the ground and earth, step by step involved learning and self-driven insights, learning that is your own, is what we strive for in our design work.

We are a team of architects, historians, geologists, environmentalists, archaeologists, designers and travel journalists to mention a few. Our research work is based on actual field data and books. All photographs are our own work. Graphics and designs are our original creations.
